Kimberly Nguyen Pham Interview

My real name is Kimberly Nguyen Pham. Yeah, I know it’s a mouthful. My dad always called me Kimmy. And since he’s the most supportive of my modeling career that I chose “KIMMIE” as my model name.

What inspires you everyday

My siblings actually. They live in a world where being different is both “looked down on” and “praised for.” My younger brother isn’t there smartest but he is praised for doing his best. My younger sister is the smartest but she’s gay, and she hasn’t told anyone else except my brother and I for fear of being looked down on or, even, shunned, by my parents.

I cut my hair short for them. To show them that you don’t have to be what you were told to be. I don’t have to be a feminine woman to be a meaningful model. And I don’t have to live up to anyone’s standards. And neither should they

.

What is something you would change about people in the world
Honestly, I wish people were more understanding of others. Whether it’s about ethnicity, religion, or just social background and where you stand economically.

How do you feel about people in the world
I think there’s a huge misunderstanding everywhere. And those who need help don’t receive the help they need or deserve. While others bask in fundings they don’t need or rightfully deserve.

What is something you’ve struggled with in life
I’ve always struggled with my pride and Independence. I always think I can do it alone and I can do it myself.

What is a positive message you would give others
No matter what someone tells you that you “should” do, only do what you think feels right. It might take longer for you to find your true calling, but that’s alright.

Last question if you could make a difference in the world how would you do that
I’d like to be an influencer. Just like Ashley Graham is for being a plus size model and influencing young girls to love their bodies. I’d like to be an influencer for Asian women and show them it’s not all “tradition” and you don’t have to be submissive.
