Miguel Fernandez-Piñeros Interview

My name is Miguel Fernandez-Piñeros

What inspires you everyday

What really inspires me, is that even when the whole world crumbles, there are still people with a heart who help others. Even if that person doesn’t deserve their kindness

What is something you would change about people in the world

Really their views and opinions on people and life. So many people these days are judging others either by the way their body is shaped or what color their skin is. All of that just leads to endless fighting and it’s not helping us go anywhere in society. Look at my home town, Charlottesville. In the 15 years I’ve lived here, I’ve never seen such anger and death in a single day in what I thought was a peaceful and loving town

Had no one been biased based on their own personal beliefs, we could’ve stayed peaceful. But clearly that isn’t the case

How do you feel about people in the world
Being in band, I have a natural response: there’s always room for improvement. In this case, there is a LOT of room for improvement. Starting with putting aside our differences and focusing on one important fact: No matter what the shape of your body, the color of your skin, what gender you are or what gender you prefer to be with, we are all human. We bleed and piss the same color. We are the same on the inside but unique in our outward apperence

What is something you’ve struggled with in life
Just the constant bullying. All the judgement for my appearance. Normal yet cruel teenage problems

What is a positive message you would give others
No matter how hard people hit, no matter how harsh the words people are using, there is no greater pain than realizing you gave up without standing up and fighting for what is truly right: true peace and equality

Last question if you could make a difference in the world how would you do that
I honestly don’t know. Really when you look back at history the world changed because people went to war in many versions. MLK fought for black rights and equality, his enemies were the white supremacists, the KKK. America fought for independence from Europe by going to war. The Civil war was to free the slaves. So many world changing events go to war and even in the end, the world only changes a little. MLK’s dream still hasn’t come to pass and we’re still going to war to decide it’s fate.
