Olivia Interview

I’m going to be a first year engineering student, but am also extremely interested in the arts.

What inspires you everyday

I am inspired by the positivity and hope that I see everyday in my family, friends, and those that I don’t know well. I am inspired by all the good in the world and what can be done. With each more idea and invention, I am inspired.

What is something you would change about people in the world

I wish that more people would understand the importance of family time and relaxation. Even I have difficulty with this.

What is your view on the people in the world

I believe that people are inherently good, and truly believe that people’s environments shape them. I try to not make assumptions, because they’re almost always wrong, and know that there is always more to a person than what meets the eye.

What is something you’ve struggled with

I think that I’ve struggled with forgiving myself. I place high expectations on what I do and when I fail to meet those or when I disappoint myself, I have a difficult time moving on. Recently, however, I have noticed this and have improved, I believe, into becoming a more forgiving person to myself and others.

What is a positive message you would give others

I would tell them that no matter what happens, they have hidden support systems in friends and families and that any pain is temporary and that they must stay strong and power through it. Everyone has bad days, months, or even years, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t blossom into wonderful people. No matter what, remember to keep going.

Last question if you could make a difference in the world how would you do that

I’m still trying to figure that one out. Part of me wants to start a major effort to improve the world and societies all over, but I also know that each little thing counts, so while I don’t know all that I can do yet, I try my best to help the world through service and work, making individuals have better days and/or lives
