Brandon Lambertus Interview

My name is Brandon Lambertus and i’m 21 years old. I was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Aruba. Currently, i’m living in Rotterdam in the Netherlands; i’m majoring in English here in the Netherlands.

What inspires you everyday

There are many things that inspire me: Family, friends, art, photography, poetry, life, death and love. All of these, they inspire me; to be better, a better version of myself. Constantly improving myself so that i can be in good shape to help others.

I can’t leave out the little things. Star gazing, writing, reading, exploring, drinking tea; it’s these little things that also inspire me because they are a reminder to enjoy life, you must enjoy the little things as well.

What is something you would change about people in the world

Something i would change is being more understanding to one another, to be more openminded, to be more empathetic towards one another. Not to just see but to also observe; not to just hear but to also listen.

What is your view on the people in the world

Right now, there are a lot of things that come to my mind. But the one that stands out is confusion. Nowadays people are confused; they don’t know what they want nor what is happening. And because of this, most people cling to one certain thing that they do understand: hate. Hate and anger. When humans are afraid of something they don’t understand or can’t understand we become hostile towards whatever it is that may put us in a confusing situation. And because of this there is a lot of pain.

What is something you’ve struggled with in life

Myself. I’m constantly thinking if i’m a disappointment to others and if i’m not will i be? That’s what i usually struggle with among other things

What is a positive message you would give others

Keep moving forward. It sounds cliché and everything but that’s all there is to it. It doesn’t matter how fast you’re moving as long as you are moving. It’s not about how hard you can hit. It’s about how are you can get hit and keep moving forward; it’s how much you can take and keep moving forward. And if you ever feel like you can’t take any more, take a stand and just be still for a moment. Give yourself a chance to gather your thoughts.

Your real thoughts. And not the voices that everyone has, that are constantly trying to bring us down. No, not those thoughts. But the ones that are always trying to lift us up, the ones that are always trying to look for a solution instead of giving up. The ones that are always trying to look at bigger picture from a different angle so that you may have a broader, better understanding on the matter of hand but also a better understanding of yourself.

Last question what is a goal you would like to achieve in the world

Having a family of my own. Having someone i can come to after a long day. Teaching my kids how to ride a bike, teaching them to be compassionate towards others but also to themselves. Teach them to be understanding, to be smart, to be happy.

Making sure the one i love more than anyone has everything she would ever wish for. But mostly, i want her to be happy. I want to be one of the reasons that she is happy.
