My name is Mariya Kassa. I’m 19. I am a second year student at the university of Canterbury studying criminal justice. I’m originally from Ethiopia but i moved to New Zealand about 6 years ago
What inspires you everyday
I inspire myself everyday because ever since I moved to New Zealand it has only been me, my sister, my uncle and my 2 cousins. I had so many responsibilities ever since I came to New Zealand so i inspire myself to be strong and enthusiastic about life everyday. Also my mum is still in Ethiopia so since she was the most amazing mum to me and my sister also since she has been my inspire since I was a kid I work so hard to make her proud.
What is something you would change about people in the world
If I could it would definitely be the way most of them think
I’d like for everyone to be open minded. To accept everyone for who they are. There won’t be no diversity, everyone would be equal, no one would feel like like they don’t belong anywhere.
What is your view on society today
I think this society has changed a lot especially for black people, it’s like anyone who’s white can come and kill a black person and that he’ll still get away with it because he’s white. And no one actually cares about others feelings as long as they are happy, they make it look like thinking/caring for other people is a crime.
What is a positive message you would give others
If you want to see a change in this world then start by doing the stuffs you want to be changed or maybe start by changing yourself
Last question what is a goal you would like to achieve in the future
My goal is to become a detective then move to America to help the black people who are not getting justice
