Introduce Yourself

Hey! My name is Grace Garrison, i’m 15 years old and a junior in high school.

What inspires you everyday

recently I’be been very inspired by drag queens. I know it may seem kind of strange, but they are such an insane artistic force and it’s unreal to observe their creativity and talent. other than that though, I am very inspired by celebrities like Hari Nef, Rowan Blanchard, and Zoe Kazan. I see their activist endeavors online and it makes me want to speak up and try to make a difference in the world.
What is something you would change about people in the world

i would have them realize that they are no better than anyone else because of their social status, skin color, sexuality, gender, or anything of the like. and i would have them realize that religion is not justification for hate, but rather for love.
What is your view on society today

i think that even though it seems like we’re in a shitty place, and many people have lost hope, it is beautiful how these times have brought people together. tragedy, turmoil, and chaos always bring people together, and i love the activist scene that today’s society has spawned, though i wish there wasn’t a need for it.
What is something you’ve struggled with

well i’ve struggled with depression and anxiety triggered by my parents divorce a couple years back, but i’m so used to that it doesn’t really seem like a struggle anymore, just a part of life. besides that i’ve struggled a lot trying to both accept my sexuality and practice my religion. I am bisexual, but I am also a Christian, and figuring out the overlap between how I feel and what I believe has been very difficult. I’ve come to peace with it though, because I believe that God made me this way and that He loves me regardless of who I love.
What is a positive message you would give others

It’s cliche as hell, but I’d tell them that time usually is the cure for most things, emotionally at least. Whatever you may be going through in your mind or heart, give it time. Yes, it will hurt like nothing else, but giving yourself time to heal can be one of the best things you can do. nine times out of ten you really will get better, and life will get easier, because life goes on.
Last question what is a goal you would like to achieve in the future

One very big goal for me is to move to New York. I live in Atlanta, but my heart is NYC and I feel like it’s where I belong. I want to attend Columbia University there, but who know’s where life will take me, I just hope I end up in that city some way or another.
