Introduce yourself

I’m Brock Storey. I grew up in a small town called Seymour, Indiana. But in August I moved to New York City to go to the New School.
What inspires you everyday

I don’t know of any basic things that inspire me every day. But my friends most definitely. They are all so talented. My friend August who I’m working on a poetry zine with right now can do anything and it’s beautiful. He inspired me a lot. Also I read all day every day which keeps me inspired. Beautiful girls inspire me in a way that is immeasurable
What is something you would change about people in the world

But changing people seems arbitrary. I love how people are. There isn’t a problem with differing perspectives. I do not agree with certain people, say Trump supporters, but the main goal should be understanding and a unity between differing schools of ideology.
What is your view on society today

I think especially in the recent political climate it’s easy to be afraid. I’m very afraid. Especially for my friends of color, my gay friends, those I know who don’t conform to the heteronormative binary gender system. But it should also be said that I love living now. I mean, Beyonce is having twins.
What is something you’ve struggled with

Most of my life has been fairly privileged, I can’t deny that. But I think the biggest one is mental illness, which seems trite and kind of whatever. But I’ve been going to see a therapist on and off since I was in the 2nd grade. It’s been a big struggle and I’m still not really there yet. I’m working through it. It comes in waves.
What is a positive message you would give others

Just to work to find themselves. It’s a hard process. But in the end it’s a path worth finding, no matter how long it takes.
Last question what is a goal you would like to achieve in the future

My main goal is to just continue to write poetry for as long as i can. I don’t have any real aspirations. I don’t like looking too forward- dangerous.
