Introduce yourself

My name is Salma. I live in a small town in California. I enjoy art and everything about the history behind it. Architecture is a major I wish to pursue, if not the study of the mind. I hold a strong affinity for photography and track and field.
What inspires you everyday

Well it depends. At this point in life I don’t see much potential in the world. Our society is all jagged, but what keeps me going is the idea that everyday is a gain of strength. Also my art history teacher and English teacher, and talking to them about society and people in general.

What inspires me everyday is to be a living example of progress.
What is something you would change about people in the world?

I can’t change people in this world, even if I could I wouldn’t because every individuals actions is what brought you to create this movement. I do however wish people were less worried about materialism, and succeeding for the wrong ideas. I wish people cared more about inner beauty and value what they have instead of wanting more that they don’t need.
What is your view on society today?

It’s negative. I see a society that values the superficial of a human. A society that discriminates for the trend, a society that hates on those who wish to stand out. A society that crushes dreams and fears originality.
What is something you’ve struggled with?

I believe I have struggled with wanting to fit in with the rest. I guess that’s very typical of a young teen/ adult but it’s such a strong desire to belong that I hide my true self. I’ve also struggled with rage towards people and mental illnesses.
What is a positive message you would give others that?

To be happy is not having many friends. It isn’t to be wealthy and have obtain luxuries. It is not to be with the trend, nor is it to have a perfect life. To be happy is to be content with life. It is to be okay with the pain of life. Happiness is to see the beauty of pain. Contentment with ones self, the flaws, and complexity.
That’s my message for people.

Mental illness do not define a human, forget what society believes. Stop trying to become one and stand out regardless the hate you get.
Last question what is a goal you would like to achieve in the future?

A goal is like to achieve.. I believe that would be forgiveness. I’d like to reach that.
