Introduce yourself

Well, my name is Shaileen. I live on the island of Guam and i’m currently a high school senior.
What inspires you everyday

I get inspired by the people around me, like my peers. To see people of my age do great things motivates me to be productive. We all somewhat have equal opportunity so in a way, it reminds me that there should be no excuses.
What is something you would change about people in the world

If I could, I would definitely want to change the perspective of everyone. We all focus more on the negatives than the positives and more often than not, take things for granted.
What is your view on society today?

I personally feel that society is too close-minded. We’re not open to different beliefs and aren’t accepting of each other. We care too much for what others think of us and rely on social media to gauge our “worth”.
what is something you’ve struggled with?

I’ve struggled with social anxiety for quite a while. It wasn’t until recently that I was able to recognize it myself. I think it rooted from my lack of self-confidence. Since a young age, I dreaded basic  tasks like simply answering phone calls, ordering food, and most of all socializing. I secluded myself a lot because I felt completely hopeless. I came off as a snobbish/rude person because I always tried to avoid talking since I didn’t really know how. Even so, id like to think that I’ve overcome it.
what is a positive message you would give others?

As cliche as it is, I’d tell others to be themselves and do what makes them happy. Instead of always trying to follow the crowd we should all learn to embrace our differences and express ourselves freely.
last question what is your definition of a peaceful world

Honestly speaking, I don’t think there’s such thing as a peaceful world because there’ll always be chaos somewhere but the closest thing we can get to a peaceful world, in a nutshell, is one where maybe people become more open to new ideas and possibilities and where we don’t take advantage of the everyone/everything
