Tell me about yourself

My name is Caitlin. I’m originally from Denver, Colorado and I am studying Finance and German at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. I have a younger brother who just graduated high school and two cats.

What are you truly passionate about

I love exploring new places and being outside. I’ve always enjoyed and taken every opportunity to travel, be it through service trips, study abroad opportunities or family vacations. I also take every chance I get to hike or even just walk around outside.

What do you admire

I admire genuineness, independence, openness and respect.

What is true love to you

To me, true love is putting something or someone above oneself without a second thought. Furthermore, that thing or person helps shape one’s identity in a way that without it, him or her, one feels incomplete.

What is your perspective view of the world

I believe that the more you reach out to others and express a genuine desire to get to know them or at the very least treat them with respect, the more positive opportunities  for personal growth or new relationships will come your way.

What are your goals in life

I hope to get a job that provides me with financial security and enables me to continue to pursue my passions such as traveling, while also making a positive impact on my community. I hope to maintain the great friendships that I already have and continue to spend time with people who inspire me and who enjoy my company as much as I enjoy theirs.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years

I see myself working in financial services in Denver, Dallas or maybe abroad (i.e. London, Frankfurt, etc.). I would like to pursue some form of higher education, whether I return to school for an MBA or maybe even go to law school.

What are your strengths and weaknesses

One of my greatest strengths is also one of my biggest weaknesses. I am very detail oriented and organized which has helped me do well in school and position me for various professional opportunities. This ability also enables me to manage my time well and balance work, school, social and personal activities. On the other hand, I can easily get caught up in minutiae that have little greater effect, detracting from my ability to look at the bigger picture and sometimes causing me undue anxiety.

Who inspires you if you have an inspiration

My brother inspires me with his ability to humbly achieve impressive personal successes without losing his carefree attitude, spontaneity and ability to always make the best out of a situation. His positive energy almost always rubs off on others in the best way possible.

What is something you would change in the world

I think a lot of the world’s problems could be alleviated and future problems avoided if people took the time to step into the shoes of others and consider more points of view. People should reach out to others more often before making rushed judgements or hasty decisions. I think that often times, when people see others making an effort to understand their own point of view, they also become more open and receptive.

What is the biggest accomplishment you’ve had

My biggest accomplishment is receiving the President’s Scholarship at SMU. This has allowed me to pursue exactly what I wanted to study in a city with innumerable opportunities and to meet some of my best friends. This program connected me with incredibly smart and talented people and paid for me to work and study abroad last summer (a summer that I wish I could repeat every year).

Do you have any questions for me

Who/what inspired this project?  Do you think that you have positively impacted or inspired others?
