Devon Mullen Interview

1. Tell a bit about yourself

I am 21 years old, and from Ontario Canada about 2 hours north of Toronto. I have a boyfriend who is 25 and I have been with him for just over 2 years. I am a college student, studying Early Childhood Education. I have an older brother, who no longer lives at home with us.

2. What are you very passionate about

I am very passionate about things I believe in, and the people I meet. I belive there is good, in everything and everyone even if you can’t find it right away. I don’t believe in just giving up on something, because there is something blocking your way. If that makes sense at all? haha

3. What do you plan for the future

I plan to finsih my schooling, for Early Childhood Education, they I may follow it up with my undergrad in Developmental Psychology. I hope that my boyfriend, and I are able to finally get our home together, and begin our lives.

4. What are your hobbies

I actually don’t have really hobbies. However, I sometimes do some sketching. But I’m not really a hobbiest.

5. What is something that inspires you

People. People inspire me. They terrify me, but inspire. Seeing what is possible, and what a change a single person is able to do is so inspirational.

6. What are your biggest influence

My past, and myself. My past, is one that I don’t believe I could explain in a day. However, everything that I have triumphed has molded me into who I am, and who I don’t want to become.

7. What is something you’ve struggled with in the past

Mental Illness, bullying, and a relationship with my father that cannot be repaired. I suffer from severe anxiety and depression, and on some days I am not able to get out of bed. Being bullied is something that I will never forget. I will never forget, being afraid to go to school, or even go out into public, because not only were the children bullying me, but my teacher as well. My father and I are like oil and water. We just don’t go. We have struggled my entire life, and it has gotten to the point where there will be no fixing it.

8. What is your perspective view on the world

The world is fucked up, (apologies if you cannot use that word, feel free to paraphrase). The world and the way it is today makes me terrified to bring children into it. No one is able to say anything without someone jumping down their throat shoving their views down there. And you know what? I believe that everyone has a right to their own beliefs and ways of life. However, don’t push your belief onto someone else, because you feel that what you believe in is the only thing that is correct. If only society would realize that having your opinion and belief is okay and it is actually what the world was built on. But alas, that will never change. The world just needs to relax, and learn to love and be loved.

9. What does true love mean to you

Wanting to be better and do better. Not only for yourself, but for those around you.

10. Do you have any questions for me?

What/who gave you the idea to begin this journey of sharing stories from those around the world?
